Telos: Finding Purpose

When an object is used for its intended purpose...

  • Its intended goal is fulfilled.
  • There is a good fit.
  • It makes sense.
  • The Creator and creature are in harmony.
  • There is happiness.
  • You get the best results.
  • Self-fulfillment can occur.
  • Respect is shown

When objects are not used for their intended purpose...

  • The internal goal is frustrated, not fulfilled.
  • There's a bad fit.
  • It doesn't make sense.
  • The Creator and creature are not in harmony.
  • There is no happiness.
  • You get poor results.
  • Self-fulfillment cannot occur.
  • Lack of respect is demonstrated.

What you need to remember

  • Telos means purpose.
  • Everything has a "purpose," including each of us.
  • We all have a common "Telos."
  • Our common purpose is to do what God put us on earth for. God put us on earth for "Union with God and others in God."
  • "Union with God and others in God" means this: God first loved us. God created us to share in His love. God calls us to respond to His love, to open our hearts to His love. When we open our hearts to God's love, we can then love God and others in God.
  • We are "created by God and for God and God never ceases to draw us to Himself."
